President Donald Trump on Monday celebrated West Point's decision to cancel an award ceremony for actor Tom Hanks.

The school's alumni announcement chose to cancel the ceremony for the actor, who was set to receive the Sylvanus Thayer Award, according to the Washington Post. The award honors someone who did not attend the university, has a record of service, and well-exemplifies the values of the school.

"Our great West Point (getting greater all the time!) has smartly cancelled the Award Ceremony for actor Tom Hanks," Trump posted on Truth Social. "Important move! We don’t need destructive, WOKE recipients getting our cherished American Awards!!!"

"Hopefully the Academy Awards, and other Fake Award Shows, will review their Standards and Practices in the name of Fairness and Justice. Watch their DEAD RATINGS SURGE!" he added.

It is not clear whether the alumni association will revoke the award itself. The group asserted that the decision would help the score to better focus on its core commitments.
