Trump lawyer says only crime her client committed is 'loving America'
"The left has tried to demolish President Trump, but there is no bulldozer big enough or strong enough to remove the legacy he has built or the future he is creating," Habba said.
One of former President Donald Trump's attorneys Alina Habba said on Thursday at the Republican convention that the "only crime" her client has committed is "loving America," which drew cheers from the audience.
Republican leaders and officials are gathered at the Fiserv Forum, in Milwaukee this week for the Republican convention, where Trump and Ohio Sen. JD Vance have been confirmed as the party's presidential and vice presidential nominees.
Habba spoke about the criminal prosecutions her client is facing ahead of the 2024 elections, and denied that he has broken any laws. Trump has been convicted of 34 charges related to giving a hush money payment to former porn star Stormy Daniels.
"Every attack on President Trump only strengthens our movement. The left's madness is only a sign of desperation. Sham indictments and baseless allegations will not deter us, because the only crime President Trump has committed is loving America," Habba said on the convention stage.
"The left has tried to demolish President Trump, but there is no bulldozer big enough or strong enough to remove the legacy he has built or the future he is creating," she continued.
Habba also spoke about her immigrant family, and told anecdotes about the former president. Habba represented Trump in the defamation suit brought by writer E. Jean Carroll, but she has since moved into a senior advisor role, and often speaks to the media about the former president's court cases.
