Trump makes 'sacred vow' on anniversary of Oct. 7: 'Never again'

Former President Donald Trump on Monday lamented the loss of life during the Oct. 7 Hamas raid one year ago and issued what he called a "sacred vow."

"We stand with you, and we make you this sacred and sacred vow, very simple vow, a vow you've heard many times, and sometimes it's honored, and sometimes it's not, but this will be honored. Never again, never again," he said, referencing a phrase the Jewish community often uses in reference to the Holocaust.

Trump made the remarks at an Oct. 7 remembrance event marking the one-year anniversary of a Hamas raid on Israel that resulted in 1,200 casualties. The raid triggered an ongoing conflict as the Israel Defense Forces invaded the Gaza Strip in a bid to oust Hamas from power.

He further offered prayers for the hostages who remained in Hamas custody.

"We pray that through the darkness, they know that we have not forgotten them, that we have not forsake forsaken, then we will never forsake them, and we will never abandon them, and with God's help, they will come safely home," he went on. "And it will be soon. We hope it will be very soon."

He further insisted that Nov. 5, the day of the U.S. general election, could prove "the most important day in the history of our country. I think it'll also be the most important day in the history of Israel."
