'We want Trump': Construction workers greet Trump on way to NYC courthouse

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday stopped by a construction site on his way to a New York City courthouse as part of a criminal trial from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Trump spoke to a group of construction workers who had gathered at the scene and was met with chants of, "We want Trump!" and "USA!" He did not deliver a formal speech and largely opted to speak directly with the workers and supporters who also were at the site.

“I did nothing wrong," he said. "It’s a political witch hunt. It’s election interference, that’s all it is.

He also spoke about the Supreme Court later this morning hearing presidential immunity case.

"We have a big case today," he said. "The president has to have immunity. If you don't have immunity, you just have a ceremonial president."

The former president has stayed in New York throughout his trial on charges from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg over a 2016 payment Trump's then-attorney, Michael Cohen, made to Stormy Daniels.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts and contends that the case is part of a broader political witch hunt designed to derail his 2024 bid to return to the White House.

Judge Juan Merchan, meanwhile, has rejected requests from Trump to be excused from proceedings for other events, leading him to limit his campaign pitches to smaller events within the city, such as a stop in Harlem earlier this month.
