The death toll from catastrophic flooding and mudslides near the Nepal-China border has climbed to more than 800.

Rescue efforts were initially hampered by continual bad weather.

Updated figures released by Nepali authorities on Saturday brought the combined number of deaths reported in Nepal and Tibet to more than 800, The Associated Press reported.

Chinese officials have confirmed 16 deaths and said more than 550 people are missing.

In Nepal, the disaster agency reported roughly 3,000 people are still missing while search-and-rescue operations continue.
