Trump to award Patriots football coach Bill Belichick the Medal of Freedom
Trump has awarded 25 presidential Medals of Freedom awards, 15 of which were for names most notable in sports.
President Trump will on Monday award New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick the Medal of Freedom.
In December, Trump reappointed the Super Bowl winning NFL coach to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.
Belichick was supportive of Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign. The president referred to him as a "very good friend" and even noted that he would seek Belichick's advice in a military battle.
"He's a winner," Trump also said, in an interview with Hugh Hewitt in August. "You know, if I ever had a military battle, I'd call up Belichick and say what do you think? What do you think? Give me a couple of ideas."
Trump has awarded 25 presidential Medals of Freedom awards, 15 of which were for names most notable in sports. Among those were Dan Gable, Lou Holtz, Roger Penske and Tiger Woods.
