Former President Donald Trump said Friday that he's proud to have been the most pro-farmer president ever during a rally in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

"I'm proud to be the most pro-farmer president you've ever had in the White House," Trump said during his speech. "We did more for American agriculture than any administration in history by far and that's been pretty much acknowledged."

He said that one of his biggest accomplishments with the farming community was pulling back regulations imposed on farmers by the federal government.

"Our Department of Agriculture cut seven old regulations for every new regulation, saving farmers and taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars a year," Trump said.

The former president went on to criticize the "Waters of the United States" rule, which he said was just an excuse for the federal government to take away property from the farmers.

"You know what that is?" Trump asked, referencing the rule. "It sounds so beautiful. Basically, they were taking your property away from you. That's what it was."

The rule defines which waters of the United States are specifically protected by the Clean Water Act.

It has also been criticized by Indiana GOP Attorney General Todd Rokita.

"They were defining navigable waters as streams, or ditches in a farmer's North 40, or even standing bodies of water after a heavy enough rain," Rokita told the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show earlier this year.

"It was absolutely ridiculous," Rokita continued. "And they're not ridiculous people in the sense that they know what they're doing. They just want jurisdiction over more and more people's private property for the socialist control reasons that we all know and fear."
