President Donald Trump told reporters that his administration is considering sending rebate checks to Americans as a bonus from growing tariff revenues.

"We're thinking about a little rebate," Trump said Friday before leaving on his trip to Scotland. "But the big thing we want to do is pay down debt. But we're thinking about a rebate."

He added that the rebate checks would be "for people of a certain income level," but didn't go into any details, according to CBS News.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said during an interview with Fox Business that the federal government has already collected about $100 billion in tariff revenue.

He said that the revenue could increase to $300 billion per year. This comes after the administration announced higher tariffs on certain countries earlier this year.
