Trump warns Biden using border deal to blame GOP for 'BORDER DISASTER'
Trump, for his part, insisted that he had previously secured the border without the need for a compromise in Congress and suggested any trade would not benefit Republicans.
Former President Donald Trump on Monday warned that the Biden administration is using a prospective border deal under negotiation in the Senate to shift the blame for the ongoing surge in illegal crossings at the southern border to Republicans.
Senate Republicans are currently working with Democrats in the upper chamber to craft a deal trading border security reforms for funding to Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia. House Speaker Mike Johnson has suggested that any such deal would be "dead on arrival" in the lower chamber.
Trump, for his part, insisted that he had previously secured the border without the need for a compromise in Congress and suggested any trade would not benefit Republicans.
"A Border Bill is not necessary to stop the millions of people, many from jails and mental institutions located all over the World, that are POURING INTO OUR COUNTRY. It is an INVASION the likes of which no Country has ever had to endure," he posted on Truth Social. "It is not sustainable or affordable, and will, under Crooked Joe Biden, ONLY GET WORSE."
"I had the safest and most secure Border in U.S. History. I didn’t need a 'Bill!' They are using this horrific Senate Bill as a way of being able to put the BORDER DISASTER onto the shoulders of the Republicans. The Democrats BROKE THE BORDER, they should fix it. NO LEGISLATION IS NEEDED, IT’S ALREADY THERE!!!" he continued.
Trump's remarks follow reports from U.S. Customs and Border Protection indicating that border agents recorded more than 300,000 border encounters along the Mexican frontier in December alone.
