Americans worry about Biden's mental health more than Trump's: poll

President Joe Biden's mental capacity and fitness for office appear to trouble voters more than concerns over that of his chief Republican rival, a recent survey has revealed.

At age 80, speculation over Biden's mental acuity has abounded in the wake of a string of gaffes and his habit of telling bizarre anecdotes to relate to his audience.

Among Americans, 52.21% said they were "very concerned" about Biden's cognitive health and his ability to complete a second term in a recent NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ survey. A further 22.10% were "somewhat concerned."

Those numbers were noticeably lower for former President Donald Trump, 77, with 38.22% very concerned about his cognitive health and a further 20.76% somewhat concerned.

Biden's approval rating stood at 43.28%, including 16.84% who strong approved of his job performance and 26.44% who somewhat approved of him. On the other hand, 56.72% disapproved of him, including 40.67% who strongly disapproved and 16.05% who somewhat disapproved.

A further 70.68% backed a maximum age limit for members of Congress.

The results are bad news for the commander-in-chief, who has recently lost ground to Trump in polling. At present, the Republican leads Biden by 1.1% in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
