Arizona Reps. Biggs, Gosar subpoenaed in state election probe: Report
Both are close allies of former President Donald Trump and supported his efforts to challenge the election results.
Arizona Republican Reps. Andy Biggs and Paul Gosar were reportedly served with subpoenaes in the Grand Canyon State's investigation of a fake elector scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, Politico reported.
The outlet cited "[t]wo people who were granted anonymity to discuss the sensitive probe" as sources for the Biggs subpoena, while it reviewed a letter from Gosar to House Speaker Mike Johnson disclosing his own.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has not suggested that either lawmaker may face charges in the probe. Both are close allies of former President Donald Trump and supported his efforts to challenge the election results.
The alternate elector scheme was devised by attorney John Eastman, who faces disbarment over his role. Judge Yvette Roland last week recommended that he be disbarred, finding that he violated ethics rules in pushing the scheme. He is not currently eligible to practice law.
Under his plan, then-Vice President Mike Pence would have rejected the slates of pro-Biden electors from the disputed states in favor of alternate electors who backed Trump.
Authorities in other states have already brought charges against the alternate electors in Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada.
