Biden clings to Michigan leads, but Trump does better than DeSantis: poll
The Florida governor declared his candidacy earlier this year in the wake of his landslide reelection campaign in formerly purple Florida.
Were the 2020 presidential election held today, President Joe Biden would claim battleground Michigan over either former President Donald Trump or Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to a new poll.
Biden edged out Trump in the Wolverine State, 45%-43% in a Mitchell Research poll of likely Michigan voters, hitting the limit of the survey's +/- 2% margin of error, meaning the race is a statistical tie.
DeSantis, meanwhile, fared much worse in a matchup with Biden. The Florida governor took the support of 31% of Michiganders compared to Biden's 44%, meaning that Trump outperformed DeSantis against Biden in the battleground by 11-points.
The Florida governor declared his candidacy earlier this year, following his landslide reelection campaign in formerly purple Florida. The governor has, however, largely failed to gain significant traction against Trump in the primary and at least one survey has shown him tied for second place with tech mogul Vivek Ramaswamy.
Most surveys show DeSantis in a clear second place, though he still trails Trump by 31.7% in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
Conducted between July 11-13, the survey questioned 639 likely Michigan voters.
