Biden fumes at Fox reporter over Devon Archer question
"I never talked business with anybody. And I knew you’d have a lousy question," Biden said.
President Joe Biden on Wednesday angrily addressed Fox News reporter Peter Doocy after he asked the commander-in-chief about congressional testimony that ex-Hunter Biden business associate Devon Archer gave suggesting he may have communicated with his son's business partners while vice president.
Archer testified that Biden was on the phone roughly 20 times with his son's business associates, seemingly undercutting Biden's longstanding denials that he never discussed business with his son.
At a New Mexico event, Doocy addressed the matter, stating to Biden that "[t]here’s this testimony now where one of your son’s former business associates is claiming that you were on speakerphone a lot with them talking business," The Hill reported.
"I never talked business with anybody. And I knew you’d have a lousy question," Biden said, prompting Doocy to demand an explanation. "Because it’s not true," the president added.
Archer has contended that Hunter Biden often used the prospect of his father's influence to secure lucrative international deals. The phone calls, he alleged, were Hunter's means of showing that he could secure influence with the then-vice president.
The exchange between Biden and Doocy comes as Republicans continue to investigate the first family's business dealings, including an alleged bribery effort in which Ukrainian energy company Burisma's CEO allegedly paid Hunter and another Biden $5 million each to get a Ukrainian prosecutor investigating the firm fired.
Biden has taken credit for getting Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin fired, though he contends he was merely executing established U.S. foreign policy.
