Biden touts tax crackdown one day after son pleads not guilty to tax charges
On Thursday, Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to tax charges that special counsel David Weiss brought, alleging he engaged in a "four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019."
One day after his own son pleaded not guilty to federal tax charges, President Joe Biden celebrated his administration's enforcement of tax law and collection of back taxes from millionaires.
"As of today, the IRS has collected over $500 million in unpaid taxes from 1,600 millionaires using resources from my Inflation Reduction Act. This is about the super-wealthy needing to pay what they owe – what the existing tax code calls for – just like hardworking Americans do," he posted on X.

The Inflation Reduction Act included $80 billion in funding for the IRS over 10 years that the administration said would be used to help crackdown on wealthy tax delinquents, though Republicans have warned the agency would likely go after middle-income Americans.
