Tennessee GOP Rep. Tim Burchett is eyeing the Senate seat of fellow Republican Marsha Blackburn should she win the state governor's race Tuesday, joining several others reportedly hoping to take her post.

Should Blackburn win, a replacement will be appointed to serve out the remainder of her term, which ends in 2028.

Other top Republicans have also reportedly expressed interest in the seat including Rep. Chuck Fleischmann and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Punchbowl News reported Thursday.

Burchett also plans to run for the open seat in 2028, regardless of whether he is appointed to serve out Blackburn's current term, arguing his existing network across the state will help him.

Burchett told Punchbowl that he's “absolutely” going to start campaigning against whoever gets appointed ahead of an open 2028 contest.

He also said: “We’ve got a very good, positive network throughout the state of grassroots people."

Burchett also suggested he could play a role as mediator between the House and Senate GOP, should he serve in the upper chamber. He also expressed considerable frustration with the upper chamber's failure to move on bills the House sends to it.
