"The Young Turks" host Cenk Uygur on Wednesday ended his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination after failing to make significant headway against President Joe Biden.

Uygur announced his campaign in October of last year, but failed to attract significant media attention or claim any delegates in party primary contests. He indicated to The Hill on Wednesday that he had mounted the effort due to fears that Biden could not emerge victorious in the general contest against former President Donald Trump.

"This was an act of desperation to try to change the course of this campaign because Biden I was positive was going to lose," he said.

Born in Turkey, Uygur is not constitutionally eligible to become president.

His withdrawal from the race comes the same day that Democratic Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips dropped out and endorsed Biden.
