Broncos stadium requiring masks to be worn in all indoor spaces
The requirement follows the city of Denver's new public health order that began Wednesday.
The Denver Broncos' Empower Field at Mile High will require face masks to be worn in the stadium's indoor spaces starting with Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers, after a new Denver Public Health Order was issued Tuesday.
Masks will be required in all elevators, restrooms, suite corridors, the Broncos team store, indoor areas of the stadium clubs, and the press box, regardless of vaccination status, according to the team's website.
Suites are considered private spaces, so masks will not be required for them or the general concourse or outdoor seating.
"The updated Denver Public Health Order will be communicated to fans through frequent announcements leading up to — and on — game day as well as via signage displayed prominently at Empower Field at Mile High," according to the Broncos' statement.
"Empower Field at Mile High will remain in close communication with public officials and health experts, adjusting its COVID-19 policies as necessary based on the latest recommendations and in accordance with all local/league protocols. We will continue to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including encouraging all eligible Coloradans to receive the vaccination."
The new Denver Public Health Order for mask-wearing in public indoor spaces took effect Wednesday and will remain in place until Jan. 4. Anyone who isn't exempt from the order (i.e. for age or medical reasons) and "fails to comply" may receive a civil penalty of up to $5,000.
