White House advisor Anthony Fauci recovering from vocal cord surgery
The doctor will 'curtail his talking for a while' as he heals.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's leading infectious disease expert, was recovering Thursday from vocal cord surgery, a procedure that will take him out of the public eye, amid the coronavirus pandemic, for a brief time.
Fauci underwent the surgery Thursday morning. CNN medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta tweeted that Fauci "had general anesthesia" for the procedure and that he "was doing ok" following it.
"Doctors have advised him to curtail his talking for a while to allow his vocal cords to recover," Gupta also said.
Fauci, who has run the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for several decades, was appointed to the White House's Coronavirus Task Force in January.
