The Democratic National Convention last week had a surprise guest after all. Numerous attendees at the Chicago convention reported testing positive for COVID-19 amid health officials' concerns over spiking infections nationally, the New York Post reported.

"When you spend five days in Chicago for the DNC and come home with COVID-19. Womp womp," said attendee Christopher Wiggins, a reporter for the LGBTQ magazine The Advocate.

Yasmine Taeb, a human rights lawyer, said, "Indeed. I arrived at the DNC healthy and hopeful and left very sick and disillusioned."

The Chicago Department of Public Health has yet to respond to a request for comment Monday about the news report or whether it has additional information about a possible outbreak.

"The DNC convention is a superspreader and happening during the peak of one of the largest summer COVID surges of the pandemic," said X user Lucky Tran.

David Kronig posted on X, "It's infuriating that the DNC required no mitigations during a massive covid surge. It's so irresponsible on a community level but also so short-sighted. These are the most engaged Democrats in the country, & now they're all gonna be out of the fight for weeks, months, or forever."
