Cuomo says coronavirus New York death tally dropped for first time
The New York City area has been one of the hardest hit in the U.S.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that his state's coronavirus death toll has decreased "for the first time."
A graphic accompanying Cuomo's daily presentation showed the number of deaths increased from 562 on April 2 to 630 on April 3, and dipped to 594 on April 4.
"But the number of deaths over the past few days has been dropping for the first time," the governor said. "What is the significance of that? It's too early to tell."
There have been coronavirus 4,159 deaths in the Empire State, far more than in any other state.
The New York City area has been hard hit by the crisis, with more than 2,250 deaths so far according to the NYC Health Department.
The governor's brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, announced last week that he tested positive for the coronavirus.
