Dean Phillips runs damage control after Andrew Yang spat with Marianne Williamson

Democratic presidential candidate and Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips on Friday praised Marianne Williamson and encouraged her to remain in the party primary after Andrew Yang suggested that she opt for a role in Phillips's prospective administration.

"I respect [Marianne Williamson]- a woman of courage, conviction, and strength. I hope she stays IN the Democratic primary with me as we shine light on American suffering, propose solutions, and promote democracy while our party suppresses it," he posted on X.

His remarks follow a Thursday speech from Yang in which he urged Williamson to drop and back Phillips.

"Dean is our best chance to change things. I am looking forward to serving in his administration and I hope that you will join us," he said the time.

Williamson, for her part, did not respond positively to the call.

"Wow [Andrew Yang]! The days of a woman stepping aside on the assumption that a man can do a better job are over. Deeply disappointed in you guys. And the answer is no," she posted in response.

Williamson averaged 7.0% in the Democratic primary, according to RealClearPolitics, while Phillips earns 3.3%. President Joe Biden commands 70.0% support.
