Biden to unveil renewed student loan debt relief plan next week: Report
The Supreme Court last year struck down a broader debt cancellation program that would have seen the government forgive up to $10,000 for most borrowers and as much as $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients.
President Joe Biden will reportedly outline a renewed plan to expand student loan debt relief at an event in Wisconsin next week, the Associated Press reported, citing "three people familiar with the plans."
The effort is expected to define and target new groups of loan recipients for whom the administration has not previously attempt to provide relief, per the outlet. Such an effort would be based on the Higher Education Act and officials reportedly believe that path would help the effort survive judicial scrutiny.

After the ruling, the administration debuted a revised, income-driven repayment plan to carry on the debt relief effort and has since used the Saving on a Valuable Education plan to enact smaller cancellations.
