Dr. Ben Carson says US education system taken over by 'radicals' pushing leftist ideology

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson said Thursday the country's education system has been taken over by 'radicals' trying to make curriculum a mouthpiece for leftist ideology. 

"Our education system has been taken over by radicals who push insane political ideologies like CRT, DEI, transgenderism and more on our poor children," Carson said at the annual CPAC event, outside of Washington, D.C., in suburban Maryland. 

He said that the curriculum needs to be focused on teaching kids basic subjects such as math and civics.

Different states have come under fire from conservatives for "woke curriculum" in public schools.

In 2022, the Maryland Department of Education was criticized for its health curriculum that stated children should learn about LGBT families and gender expression in preschool, and by 7th grade know about racism's effects on sexual health.

He said that essentially every major institution has become hostile toward conservatives and Christians.

"They come down with the full force of the law when a student tries to open a Bible or say a prayer in school," he said.
