Rep. Byron Donalds says there needs to be an 'economy for education'

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., said that the education system needs to have an economy, which will result in school choice and benefit students. 

"What you really want is an economy for education like you have an economy for telecommunications [or] like you have an economy for housing," he said this week during a "Moms for Liberty" event. 

Parental rights and education reform have made headlines over the past four years, with many parents speaking out against what children have been learning in the classrooms.

"When you have true economies where people can buy and choose services, what ends up happening is the price per student, or the price per credit hour actually goes down, but the quality goes up," he said. 

Byrons went on to share his personal educational story, including how his mother didn't want him to go to public school in the inner city of New York and made sure he could go to a private school. 

"She knew I was smart, and she knew I was capable," he said. "But she had to just direct me in environments that can make that [education] happen."
