Kentucky's largest school district requires masks regardless of vaccination status

Kentucky's largest school district will require students, faculty and staff to wear a COVID-19 mask, regardless of vaccination status, on school property and buses, amid a significant increase in case numbers. 

Jefferson County Public Schools, which covers Louisville, instituted the change in policy starting Monday, just over two weeks before classes resume, The Associated Press reported.

The decision is in-line with district policy, which requires universal masking whenever COVID-19 cases reach a high level. 

Masks will become optional again after Jefferson County comes out of the red.

About 3,200 new COVID cases and nine deaths were reported in Kentucky on Friday, according to the most recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.
