Campaign officials for Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar said Monday that the candidate is suspending her campaign on the eve of Super Tuesday and will endorse former Vice President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination.

Since Biden's primary win this past weekend in South Carolina, his campaign has looked to gather the support of moderate Democrats as they try to block socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders’ path to the nomination.

An independent from Vermont seeking the Democratic Party nomination, Sanders has been climbing in the polls in recent weeks and leads in the delegate count.

Klobuchar finished in sixth place on Saturday in the South Carolina primary, winning no delegates.

Klobuchar surged last month with a fiery debate performance that was followed by a third-place finish in the New Hampshire primary and a fundraising boost. But the disappointing South Carolina finish and her limited national campaign organization, compared to those of Biden and Sanders, plus late-entry Michael Bloomberg's advertising millions, effectively closed Klobuchar's potential path to victory.

The moderate, Midwestern senator announced her White House bid in the snow and said she would “use humor” to combat President Trump and his ad hominen attacks.

Klobuchar is expected to speak on her departure from the race this evening in Dallas.

This announcement comes less than 24 hours after fellow Democrat Pete Buttigieg suspended his campaign for the presidency.
