Sen. Darline Graham's commitment to ending abortion is under scrutiny, which could undermine her support in the South Carolina Senate Republican runoff.

Kristan Hawkins, president of the influential anti-abortion group Students for Life Action (SFLA), told NOTUS that having a clear commitment to fighting abortion is important among pro-life activists and the conservative party in general. They want to know that a candidate supports the issue and will "get things done."

Graham's commitment to be a "pro-life fighter," Hawkins said, isn't certain.

The SFLA endorsed Graham's opponent in the runoff, Rep. Ralph Norman, citing his track record of introducing and supporting anti-abortion legislation, as well as his involvement in a lawsuit to defend Planned Parenthood. He also signed a pledge committing to back anti-abortion priorities.

Graham has President Donald Trump's endorsement, but she is a relatively unknown senator with little in the way of a legislative record. The SFLA said she's been unresponsive to their questions about her positions on abortion.

Graham, who the Senate appointed following the sudden death of her brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, received 33% of the vote in a special Republican primary earlier in August, but she failed to get a majority of votes. Graham and Norman, who received 25% of the vote, will face off in the runoff election on Tuesday.
