AOC slams her Democrat Party leaders after Pelosi campaigned for anti-abortion candidate Cuellar

New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is blasting party leaders for having supported moderate Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar's reelection bid Tuesday, calling their backing "an utter failure of leadership."

Cuellar, the House's lone anti-abortion Democrat, on Thursday appeared to be on the verge of winning his primary in a very close race against progressive challenger Jessica Cisneros. 

"On the day of a mass shooting and weeks after news of Roe, Democratic Party leadership rallied for a pro-NRA, anti-choice incumbent under investigation in a close primary," Ocasio-Cortez, among Congress' most progressive members, tweeted Tuesday. "Robocalls, fundraisers, all of it. Accountability isn't partisan. This was an utter failure of leadership."

The influential National Rifle Association has given Cuellar an A rating for his support of the Second Amendment.

Cuellar, whose campaign took a hit after federal agents raided his home and campaign office in January, is competing in the state's largely Hispanic, conservative-leaning 28th Congressional District and is seeking a seventh term. 

Pelosi, a pro-abortion Catholic, made robocalls for Cuellar in the homestretch of his reelection campaign. 

"He's a valued member of our caucus," she explained. "The FBI has said he is not under investigation, and so it's up to his constituents to make the decision to send him to Congress."

Cuellar has declared victory in the race, but Cisneros has not conceded.
