In his campaign announcement video, Lamb said he has seen first hand the border crisis and how it has harmed and impacted people negatively.

"As the sheriff of Pinal County, I have been on the frontlines of this border fight," he said. "I have personally carried the dead bodies from the ditches, rescued children from sex trafficking and arrested gang members and drug dealers. I know what deadly drugs and the criminals peddling them are doing to families and communities."

Lamb is well known nationally for speaking out about the human trafficking and drug smuggling at the U.S. border.

"We've seen over 100 people on the terrorist watch lists that have come through," he recently said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "Imagine how many (migrants) are terrorists that just aren't on our government's terrorist watch list, because they've stopped focusing on that."

Democrat Rep. Ruben Gallego has announced his bid for Senate, while sitting Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a Democrat turned Independent, has yet to announce whether she'll seek a second term.

Lamb hinted at a Senate run during a pro-Second Amendment rally in his home state two months ago.

"Guys, I have loved being the sheriff," he said, according to the Arizona Mirror. "But I’m seriously considering making a run at the U.S. Senate so I can go to Washington and protect these rights for you.

“So, keep your eye on social media, look out for a possible announcement – because we’re gonna take this fight, we’re gonna restore law and order and the Constitution in Washington D.C."
