Former Arkansas Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Wednesday formally launched his 2024 presidential campaign at an event in his hometown of Bentonville.

At the event, Hutchinson touted his record as governor responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and vowed, if elected, to stand strong against U.S. enemies such as China.

He also spoke about the importance of supporting Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

"I will bring out America's best," Hutchinson also said. "We will do this through leadership, economic growth and respect for the rule of law. The Biden administration has stood on the sidelines and passively watched as rampant crime destroys our cities. ... This must change."

Hutchinson, also a former congressman, said earlier this month that he decided to run for president. He stepped down from his role as governor in January after serving two terms.

He joins former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy in competing in the Republican presidential primary.
