As a result of Tropical Storm Ian headed toward Florida, President Joe Biden canceled his Democratic National Committee (DNC) appearance to campaign and endorse Florida Democrats.
Biden was supposed to go to Orlando for a DNC rally Sep. 27, according to the Daily Mail. He was expected to make an appearance next to Gov. Ron DeSantis's Democratic opponent in this year's gubernatorial race, Charlie Crist.
On Saturday, Biden declared a state of emergency for Florida and the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency are set to assist those who will be impacted by the storm, Fox News reports.
As of now, it has not been announced when Biden will reschedule his visit to Florida.
DeSantis declared a state of emergency as well on Friday, and advised all Floridians to prepare for the storm and stock up on food, water and medicine.
"This storm has the potential to strengthen into a major hurricane and we encourage all Floridians to make their preparations," DeSantis said in a statement. "We are coordinating with all state and local government partners to track potential impacts of this storm."
