Biden has record money haul in March, but Democrats still trail Trump reelection bid by $187 million
Biden pulled in $46.7 million last month after effectively clearing the Democratic primary field
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in March had the best fundraising month of his campaign, but the record haul still leaves him and his party tailing President Trump and his Republican Party by nearly $187 million.
Biden raised $46.7 million last month, according to an email Monday to supporters. That amount is roughly half of what Biden had raised in the entire campaign prior to March, according to The New York Times.
After a slow start, the former vice president surged in fundraising after winning South Carolina, the fourth state contest in the primary campaign, then effectively eliminating his field of primary rivals after Super Tuesday.
The Democratic National Committee raised $32.7 million in March, giving the DNC and Biden a combined total last month of $79.4 million.
The Republican National Committee raised $24 million in March. The 2020 Trump campaign has yet to file its March financial report. However, the GOP has said the group and the president raised $63 million last month. in March, less than the combined $79.4 million raised by Biden and the DNC.
