Biden wins Wisconsin primary while Trump-backed justice loses state supreme court seat
Biden will almost certainly win the Democratic nomination to challenge President Trump.
Former Vice President Joe Biden has clinched a win in the Wisconsin primary that was held last week after the state's supreme court rejected Gov. Tony Evers' attempt to delay in-person voting amid the coronavirus crisis.
And despite public backing from President Trump, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Dan Kelly was defeated by Jill Karofsky, leaving conservatives with just a 4-3 advantage on the court, according to the Associated Press.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Biden's last remaining viable challenger, announced after the primary last week that he would suspend his campaign, though he also said he would remain on future state primary ballots and continue amassing delegates in order to wield influence at the Democratic party's convention.
Sanders' decision to bow out of the race means that Biden will almost certainly clinch the Democratic nomination to challenge President Trump in the 2020 general election.
Biden also recently secured a victory in Alaska's Democratic primary, which was mail-in only amid the ongoing health crisis.
