Lawyer and former Army Col. Eugene Vindman has been declare the winner of a House race in Virginia, keep the seat for Democrats.
He is the twin brother of Alexander Vindman, the National Security Council aide in the first Trump administration who was involved in flagging the 2019 phone call between then-President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that led to Trump's first impeachment trial.
Republicans had hoped to retake the state's 7th congressional seat, which was a GOP stronghold but has been held by Democrat Rep. Abigail Spanberger since 2018. Spanberger is running for governor .
Vindmen defeat Republican Derrick Anderson with about 51% of the vote as of Wednesday evening, according to the Associated Press, which has called the race for Vindmen.
