The Democratic presidential convention in Milwaukee will be delayed until mid-August, one week before the Republican convention in Charlotte is due to start. The Democratic National Committee convention was initially slated to take place in July.

President Trump and Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel have both recently said that the Republican convention will go forward as scheduled.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said this week that it would be hard to envision the the convention going forward in July as planned. He mentioned, additionally, that an August convention date now appeared more attractive due to the postponement of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

In a press release from the DNC Convention Committee, CEO Joe Solmonese said, “In our current climate of uncertainty, we believe the smartest approach is to take additional time to monitor how this situation unfolds so we can best position our party for a safe and successful convention."
