The Democratic National Committee is targeting presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump over his federal election interference case in Georgia in a new mobile billboard ad ahead of the first presidential debate Thursday night in Atlanta.
Trump has been charged with attempting to subvert the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. The new billboard will mark the first time the committee has targeted him over the case, according to The Hill newspaper.
Trump will debate President Joe Biden in CNN studios in Atlanta.
“Voters will see the stark contrast tonight between President Biden, a true leader ... and Donald Trump, a convicted felon ... ,” DNC spokesman Abhi Rahman said in a statement.
The ad will be showcased at the debate venue and is part of a larger $50 million ad buy that highlights Trump have been found guilty this spring in a Manhattan courtroom on 34 felony charges in connection to a hush money payment to former porn star Stormy Daniels during Trump 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump is expected to appeal the hush money verdict after his sentencing on July 11.
The presidential debate Thursday night will be the first of two this election cycle and will be moderated by CNN anchors Jake Tapper, and Dana Bash. ABC News will host the second presidential debate on Sept. 10.
