Editor of socialist magazine criticizes Biden for refusing to reveal his campaign advisers
The secrecy is 'problematic,' Jacobin Editor-in-Chief David says.
The editor-at-large of a prominent socialist magazine criticized Joe Biden this week for keeping the identity of his campaign advisers a secret, arguing that the public has a need to know the affiliation of those connected to a presidential campaign.
David Sirota, Jacobin Magazine’s Editor-in chief, leveled the criticism during an appearance on Hill.TV, calling it "problematic" that the Biden campaign has refused to release those names.
"If there is an actual official council of economic advisers advising Joe Biden," Sirota said, "and those people are not telling media folk that [they're on the council]...that's a situation where there is advice being put out in the media that doesn't allow the audience to know what the actual affiliation is."
Sirota conceded that the matter rests in a "grey area" regarding what constitutes an official campaign consultant. But he said the overall issue should be resolved by Biden's campaign.
"If there is an official policy by the Biden campaign, that [the campaign] will not disclose the people who are helping build the platform of potentially the next president of the United States," that would be a problem, he said.
