Ex-national security adviser John Bolton mulls writing in Ronald Reagan in 2024

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said Tuesday that he is considering writing in former Republican President Ronald Reagan for the presidential election. 

"I will write in somebody I want to vote for... a conservative Republican," Bolton said on the "John Solomon Reports" podcast. "I've been trending toward voting for Ronald Reagan."

Bolton was considering writing in former GOP Vice President Dick Cheney for the election. However, Cheney recently backed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. 

"That's an aspirational vote, but I think that is the symbol of what we really need," Bolton said in reference to Reagan. 

Back in April, Bolton said he would likely write in Cheney because he said he believed Cheney would do a better job then President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. 

"Because he was a principled Reaganite conservative, and he still is," Bolton said, according to Yahoo News. "Age is no longer a factor in American presidential politics, so his age doesn’t disqualify him."

Cheney served as vice president to former President George W. Bush and was a congressman from Wyoming. 

Bolton served under Trump as national security adviser before being fired in 2019.
