Exxon Mobil CEO Darren Woods recommends that President-elect Donald Trump keep the U.S. involved in global initiatives to combat climate change after he withdrew from the Paris climate accord in 2017.

Outgoing Democrat President Joe Biden rejoined the pact in 2021. Trump, a Republican, is likely to withdraw the U.S. from the agreement in his second term.

Woods said Trump should bring a “common sense” approach to the annual U.N. Climate Change Conference as well as “continue to have the U.S. influence policy around the world."

His comments were made on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Tuesday.
