A former battalion commander of Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz’s National Guard unit called it an “affront” for Walz to claim a title he did not earn.

Kolb said Walz did not earn the rank of command sergeant major.

John Kolb, who was a lieutenant colonel in the Minnesota unit after Walz left to run for Congress, wrote a Facebook post about Walz.

“He did not earn the rank or successfully complete any assignment as an E9,” John Kolb wrote of Walz. “It is an affront to the Noncommissioned Officer Corps that he continues to glom onto the title.”

There has been controversy surrounding Walz’s military background.

The latest issue involves Walz saying he carried weapons “in war.”

Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign later said Walz “misspoke."

“Governor Walz would never insult or undermine any American’s service to this country — in fact, he thanks Senator Vance for putting his life on the line for our country,” a Harris-Walz campaign spokesperson said in a statement, according to The Hill.
