Harris up 4 points against Trump in new national poll
Harris has secured the Democratic nomination for president
Vice President Kamala Harris is leading former President Trump by 4 points, according to new Morning Consult polling data released on Tuesday.
"Latest surveys conducted Aug. 2-4 2024, among a representative sample of 11,265 registered voters, with an unweighted margin of error of +/-1 percentage point," read the graph showing the latest data.
"Harris leads Trump by 5 points among independents (42% to 37%) and by 9 points among 18- to 34-year-olds (49% to 40%), which are both record-high margins for her among the key groups of swing voters," Morning Consult reported.
"By comparison, President Joe Biden only bettered Harris’ showing among independents once in our daily tracking, back in January 2023, and in his final head-to-head tracking survey with Trump, he trailed the GOP candidate by 9 points among those youngest voters," the organization reported.
Overall, Harris leads Trump 48%-44% in the new poll.
Harris secured the Democratic nomination for president late Monday evening in a virtual Democratic National Committee vote.
She has yet to hold a formal news conference since announcing her presidential campaign after President Biden dropped out of the race on July 20.
