Harris campaign mocks Trump campaign request for muted debate mics: 'own team wants to shut him up'
Harris's team pushed for the microphones to remain on because it would show Trump's attempts to interrupt Harris before it was his time to respond.
Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential campaign on Wednesday mocked former President Donald Trump's team's request for muted mics during the upcoming presidential debate.
Trump said he has agreed to the ABC News debate rules, which are the same as the CNN debate in June, where debaters' microphones were muted when they were not speaking.
Harris' co-campaign chairman Mitch Landrieu claimed Trump's own team wants to "shut him up." Trump claimed on Monday that it did not matter to him whether the microphones were on.
“Look, if the microphones stay on, people are going to hear what he says, if they stay off, he’s going to yell and scream anyway,” Landrieu said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe." “He is an uncontrollable guy, he is unhinged.”
Harris's team pushed for the microphones to remain on because it would show Trump's attempts to interrupt Harris before it was his time to respond.
Landrieu added that the public should see how Trump is "delusional" and "does not see reality."
“That’s really kind of a critical part because some people want to give him the power of the presidency so that he can use it in a way that’s going to hurt the American people and we’re not going to let that happen,” he said.
The Sept. 10 debate will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. It will air at 9 p.m. Eastern, and will be available for streaming on the ABC News Live website and channel, along with the streaming services Disney+, and Hulu.
