Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris has outspent GOP presidential former President Donald Trump 20-to-1 on Meta's social media platforms Facebook and Instagram while Trump focuses on Google, according to a New York Times analysis.

The data in the Times' story is based on Meta company records.

The report also found that Trump outspent Democrats online in the 2020 election cycle, which he lost to President Biden. He and Harris are essentially deadlocked with Election Day coming on Nov. 5.

In the week surrounding the ABC News presidential debate, held on Sept. 10, Harris spent $1.3 million on Instagram and Facebook in Pennsylvania while Trump spent $22,465. In Michigan, Trump spent $34,790 on those platforms and she spent $1.5 million.

Trump has invested heavily in Google and YouTube ads but Harris is still spending more in that category as well. Since she joined the presidential race in July, Harris has spent $25.7 million compared to $12.8 million for Trump.

“The Harris campaign must spend an enormous amount on digital advertising, and we don’t because our campaign’s greatest asset is President Donald J. Trump,” said Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for Trump’s campaign. “Millions of people want to organically watch and engage with President Trump – you can’t put a dollar value on that.”
