Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is suggesting that President Trump might not leave the White House if he loses the election in 2020, arguing that Americans must "be ready" for that possibility.

Clinton made the prediction Monday while a guest on Comedy Central's Trevor Noah's Daily Show, which Noah has hosted virtually for several months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I think it is a fair point to raise as to whether or not, if he loses, he’s going to go quietly or not," Clinton said. "We have to be ready for that."

The former secretary of state – who did not provide any evidence to bolster her suppositions – said that Republicans are "try[ing] to prevent as many people who they think won’t vote for them from voting."

She cited as an example attempts to "make the lines really long where young people vote or African-Americans vote or Hispanics vote," though she did not clarify what she meant by that.

Claiming that Democrats would begrudgingly "accept it" if Trump won in November, Clinton added that she "[doesn’t] think that’s what will happen."

"I think the more people that can get to the poles, whether by mail or in person, and get their votes counted, then we’re going to have the kind of election we should have," she said, "and then it’ll be a win both in the popular vote and in the electoral college."

Clinton obtained a majority share of the total votes cast in the United States 2016 presidential race, though she ultimately lost the Electoral College and hence the election. She has since called for the abolishment of the Electoral College.
