House Democrats campaigns chief Maloney faces own defeat, DCCC, progressives pour cash into race
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, of which Malone is chairman, has decided to spend $600,000 on TV ads.
New York Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, the House Democrat in charge of helping his conference win and keep its chamber major, is also facing facing a tough reelection bid, forcing Washington Democrats and at least one progressive group to steer millions into the final weeks of the midterms to save him from defeat.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, of which Malone is chairman, has decided to spend $600,000 on TV ads to help Malone win reelection, according to NBC News.
The decision comes as deep-pocketed Republicans pour millions into the race, amid polling that now shows the GOP winning enough seats on Nov. 8 to retake the House majority.
Malone is in a tough race against Republican Michael Lawler in New York's Hudson Valley region.
The new DCCC cash infusion is in addition to another $110,000 from Our Hudson, a super PAC backing Maloney as he runs in a new district, which President Biden won by 10 points just two years ago, NBC also reports.
In addition, VoteVets, a campaign spending group that helps "progressive" candidates, reports a $1.15 million ad buy on behalf of Maloney, according to Punchbowl News.
The additional spending, at least from DCCC, follows election handicapper the Cook Political Report on Monday moving Maloney’s race for New York’s 17th Congressional District from “lean Democratic” to “toss up.”
