Justin Amash says he will not run for president as Libertarian Party candidate
Amash in late April had launched an exploratory committee.
Michigan Rep. Justin Amash on Saturday announced that he will not to pursue a 2020 presidential run.
The congressman's decision comes after his late April announcement that he had launched an exploratory committee and expressed interest in securing the Libertarian Party's presidential nomination.
Amash, who switched his party affiliation from Republican to Independent last year, voted for both articles of impeachment against President Trump.
He recently switched his affiliation to the Libertarian Party. In his message Saturday, he urged others to join the Libertarian Party.
"After much reflection, I’ve concluded that circumstances don’t lend themselves to my success as a candidate for president this year, and therefore I will not be a candidate," Amash explained in a Twitter thread on Saturday.
