Kennedy campaign says candidate lost Secret Service protection after suspending presidential bid

On Friday, Kennedy said he was suspending his long-shot campaign but not "terminating" it.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has lost his Secret Service protection after having suspended his campaign Friday, according to his campaign said. 

"Mr. Kennedy no longer has USSS," campaign press secretary Stefanie Spear told CBS News

On Friday, Kennedy said he was suspending his long-shot campaign but not "terminating" it. 

President Biden directed the Secret Service to provide Kennedy with Secret Service protection after the assassination attempt in July on then-presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Kennedy's father and uncle were assassinated in the 1960s. 

The Democrat-turned-independent candidate remained on the ballot in over 20 states when he suspended his White House bid, according to CBS
