Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity endorses Nikki Haley for president
Americans for Prosperity said in February that it would not support former President Donald Trump's 2024 bid.
Americans for Prosperity Action, billionaire Charles Koch's campaign group, on Tuesday endorsed Nikki Haley's 2024 Republican presidential campaign.
The group said that since February, it has contacted more than 6 million voters to collect information about what they care about and who they will support, and using that data, they determined that Haley is the candidate who can win both the primary and the general election.
Americans for Prosperity said in February that it would not support former President Donald Trump's 2024 bid.
"While our polling shows Donald Trump loses to Joe Biden, Nikki Haley outperforms Trump by 8 to 14 points in the key Presidential battleground states," the group wrote Tuesday. "In sharp contrast to recent elections that were dominated by the negative baggage of Donald Trump and in which good candidates lost races that should have been won, Nikki Haley, at the top of the ticket, would boost candidates up and down the ballot, winning the key independent and moderate voters that Trump has no chance to win."
Haley, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said she is honored to have the support of Americans for Prosperity.
"This election is a choice between freedom & socialism, individual liberty & big government, fiscal responsibility & spiraling debt. We have a country to save," she wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Americans for Prosperity has spent millions of dollars in lobbying and campaign contributions since the 2020 election, according to OpenSecrets.org. It is unclear how much money the group plans on spending in 2024.
