Republican National Committee Co-Chairwoman Lara Trump closed the second night of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Tuesday night, marking her first public address since her father-in-law former President Donald Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt over the weekend.

The former first daughter reflected on the assassination attempt, claiming that the Trump family had received its "share of death threats" over the years, but that nothing could prepare them for the shooting at a Trump rally on Saturday afternoon.
“Our family has faced our fair share of death threats, mysterious powder sent to our homes, tasteless and violent comments directed towards us on social media. But none of that prepares you as a daughter-in-law to watch in real time, someone tried to kill a person you love," Lara Trump said. "None of that prepares you as a mother to quickly reach for the remote and turn your young children away from the screen so that they're not witnessed to something that scars the memory of their grandpa for the rest of their lives."
Donald Trump was wounded in his right ear during a shooting at his rally in Pennsylvania, which also resulted in the death of one attendee and the suspected shooter. Two other civilians in the audience were critically wounded.
Lara Trump praised her father-in-law's response to the shooting, stating that "if Donald Trump has shown us anything, [it] is that when it feels impossible to keep going, those are the times we must keep going.”
“We all want this country to be great. Even if we don't always agree on the best way of doing that," the former first daughter said. "And with every bone in my body, I can tell you that all Donald Trump wants to do and has ever wanted to do is make this country great again for all of us.”
Lara Trump also defended his decision to encourage the country to "fight, fight, fight" by raising his fist earlier on Tuesday. Convention attendees have shouted the mantra on the convention floor throughout the conference.
“For him to stand up and put his fist in the air and say that was so much bigger than that rally or people who were tuning in,” she told the Washington Examiner. “It was really about this country and showing America he was ok, and really giving a message to the rest of the world that, in some ways, I see it as really he’s kind of the personification of America. And yes, we get knocked down. Yes, we have hard times. We always get back up, we always fight, we always rise to the occasion, and a lot of people are trying to criticize him for that, but I think, gosh, do we need a fighter right now.”
Donald Trump was confirmed as the Republican nominee for president on Monday night, alongside his running mate Ohio Sen. JD Vance as vice president.
