Missouri’s Republican Gov. Mike Kehoe announced Friday that the state is planning a special session to draw new congressional maps, likely changing the delegation to the U.S. Congress from six Republicans and two Democrats to 7-1. 

He released the maps on Friday and said that the special session will be next Wednesday. The new maps target the Kansas City-area 5th congressional district, currently held by Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, according to Politico.

President Donald Trump had said last week that this would be happening. 

“The Great State of Missouri is now IN. I’m not surprised. It is a great State with fabulous people,” Trump wrote on Truth Social last week. “I won it, all 3 times, in a landslide. We’re going to win the Midterms in Missouri again, bigger and better than ever before!”

Republicans have supermajorities in both chambers of Missouri’s Legislature, meaning that as long as the party sticks together, they can overcome any Democratic opposition.
